Mudassar Aziz, as soon as we read this name in a film’s credit as a director, we know that we are in for something good. He has impressed us with his movies like Happy Bhag Jayegi, Pati Patni Aur Woh, and the last year’s release Khel Khel Mein (hilarious film). Now, his new release, Mere Husband Ki Biwi starring Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh has hit the big screens on Friday. So, has the filmmaker once again impressed us? Read on to know that...

Ankur (Arjun Kapoor) is the sona munda of Delhi, but his broken marriage has become a nightmare for him as even after his divorce he can’t get his wife Prablin (Bhumi Pednekar) out of his mind; it is like a trauma for him. But then he meets Antara (Rakul Preet Singh), his college crush who was out of his league in his younger days.

Love blossoms between the two, but Prablin gets back into Ankur’s life. After an accident she forgets past few years of her life and goes back to the time when she and Ankur were in a relationship. Now, starts a game between Prablin and Antara to win Ankur. Will Ankur choose his first wife Prablin or will he get married to Antara? To know the answer you need to watch the movie...

Mere Husband Ki Biwi is written and directed by Muddassar Aziz. The movie starts on a bit dull note and the screenplay also looks bit haywire. But, after around 30 minutes, when the flashback starts, it picks up wonderfully keeping us entertained. The second half has always been the strong point of Aziz’s films and Mere Husband Ki Biwi is not an exception.

Post the interval, the competition between Prablin and Antara starts, and their tactics to get Ankur are interesting and funny, especially those done by Prablin. The grey side of that character has been explored very well, and here Aziz gets full marks because his writing and direction keep us hooked to the screens in those sequences. Even if you are not laughing out loud, there’s a smile on your face always. Also, the romantic portions are breezy, and don’t bore us.

While this is majorly a romantic comedy, there’s a good chunk that has drama and emotional scenes, and even those sequences are very well narrated. When a character feels the pain of heartbreak, you do feel bad about him or her and that’s when you know that the director has done his work very well.

Talking about performances, Arjun Kapoor has once again surprised us after Singham Again. While he is fine in comedy, what grabbed our attention the most is that the actor has done a very good job in the emotional and dramatic sequences! Without giving any spoiler, there’s a major emotional scene in the first half, and Arjun has nailed it.

As Piyush Mishra said in the trailer of the film, ‘Lagta Hai Launde Ne Mehnat Ki Hai’; well mehnat surely dikh rahi hai. Rakul Preet Singh looks gorgeous in the film and has also performed really well. Her performance will remind you of her act in De De Pyaar De.

While Arjun and Rakul impress, the show stealer is Bhumi Pednekar. Well, thankfully this is not the typical biwi role. Bhumi gets the best scenes and dialogues, and she has done full justice to the role. It is a grey character but Bhumi with her charm, owns the screens and makes us fall in love with her.

The supporting cast is also wonderful. Stand-up comedian Harsh Gujral makes a fantastic debut and his one-liners will surely make you laugh. Veteran actors Shakti Kapoor, Anita Raj, and Kanwaljit Singh are good in their respective roles. Also, Anita Raj looks stunning and super fit in the film. There’s Dino Morea and Aditya Seal also in the movie, and both of them grab our attention with their charming screen presence.

When it comes to music, the songs are decent. Gori Hai Kalaiyan is already a chartbuster and Sawariya Ji also leaves a mark. The background score is fine. Overall, Mere Husband Ki Biwi is a romantic comedy with a perfect touch of drama and emotions. It is filled with some good performances, and if you are a Bhumi Pednekar fan, this is a must-watch for you.
