A Wakf Inspector posted in Nalgonda district was caught by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 to perform an official duty.

According to the ACB, the accused, Shaik Mahmood, had sought the bribe from a complainant for submitting a factual report to the Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana Wakf Board regarding the registration of Jamee Masjid Abubakar Siddiqui Rahmatulla Alai in Nalgonda district.

Acting on a complaint, ACB officials laid a trap and caught Mahmood red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount. The tainted cash of Rs. 10,000 was recovered from his possession at his instance.

Following the operation, the ACB arrested the inspector and produced him before the Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Hyderabad.

The bureau stated that further investigation into the case is underway.
