The State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, has called for coordinated action by the district administration to safeguard children in Jawahar Nagar and ensure a better future for them.

At a meeting held on Thursday at the VC Hall of the Medchal–Malkajgiri District Collectorate, attended by Additional Collector Vijayender Reddy and Commission members Saritha and Chandana, key concerns about children’s welfare were discussed.

Chandana said a recent visit to Jawahar Nagar revealed that many of its nearly 100 colonies are slum areas where children lack access to basic education and healthcare. She expressed concern that even minimum facilities are not reaching them and stressed the need for a structured, priority-driven action plan.

She urged all departments to work in coordination, treating the children as their own, to address issues such as school dropouts, child labour, child marriage, and abuse. Officials were asked to collect data on out-of-school children and organise health camps to improve awareness and access to services.

Chandana also directed officials to launch a special drive to provide essential documents such as Aadhaar, birth, and caste certificates, noting that many children lack these. The Labour Department was asked to identify child labourers, with a focused initiative on the lines of Operation Muskan.

She called for joint efforts from GHMC, Revenue, Police, Education, Medical, Labour, and Women and Child Welfare departments to resolve the issues comprehensively.

Additional Collector Vijayender Reddy assured that a special coordinated drive would be undertaken to address the challenges in Jawahar Nagar.
