From veterans to young leaders, politicians cutting across party lines meet Former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, in his message, urged the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu states to collaborate on the development of their regions, setting aside political differences

The popular Alai Balai cultural celebration, led by former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and his daughter Vijayalakshmi, was held in grandeur at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds. Organized annually on the day following Dussehra, the event once again lived up to its reputation as a vibrant platform for cultural unity, social harmony, and Telangana’s festive identity.

Former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, in his message, urged the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu states to “collaborate on the development of their regions, setting aside political differences.” He emphasized that leaders “should not hinder each other’s development efforts” and insisted that “regardless of the challenges that may arise, they should find ways to resolve them collaboratively and move forward together.” Dattatreya expressed hope that Alai Balai would continue to create an atmosphere where “all Telugu people can come together.”

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who graced the occasion, stated that the essence of Alai Balai is unity beyond divisions. “Though our attire and languages may vary, we are all Indians,” he remarked, commending the event’s role in fostering harmony across caste, religion, and region. He hailed Dattatreya’s two-decade-long commitment to organizing the program, saying divisive forces would “ultimately face disappointment.”

Former Supreme Court Chief Justice N.V. Ramana lauded the event’s role in cultural awareness and social cohesion, while R & B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy called Dattatreya “a universally respected figure” and prayed, “May God grant him more strength.” He added that only Dattatreya could bring so many leaders together beyond politics.

Telangana Jagruthi President Kavitha reflected on Dattatreya’s legacy: “For us, Dattanna is not remembered as a BJP leader or Governor, but as a Telangana personality who connected people.” She praised Vijayalakshmi for carrying forward this legacy.

Actor Nagarjuna praised the warm reception and the non-political nature of the event, while comedian Brahmanandam reflected on the symbolic meaning of Alai Balai as an embrace of mutual respect, urging more such gatherings in today’s divisive times. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar extended Dussehra greetings and highlighted the importance of safeguarding Telangana’s cultural practices as guiding lights for future generations.

Leaders across parties — including CPI’s Narayana, Prof. Kodandaram, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, MRPS founder Manda Krishna Madiga, and Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Vimalakka — joined the celebration, underscoring the inclusive spirit of the festival. BJP party functionaries, cadre and even general public flocked the venue in big numbers.

Tasty delicacies

True to tradition, Alai Balai delighted its attendees with a lavish feast of 84 varieties of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies. Telangana’s signature dishes took center stage, with favorites like Mutton Biryani, Chicken Biryani, Haleem, Thalakaya Koora, Boti Fry, Chicken Fry, Mutton Shorba, Boiled Egg Curry, and Double Ka Meetha winning hearts. Guests described the culinary spread as a hallmark of Telangana’s hospitality, reflecting the cultural richness that defines the state. Overall 12 Quintals of Mutton and 40 Quintals of Chicken was used to prepare different varieties of non-veg dishes The huge gathering showcased Alai Balai’s unique place in Telangana’s festive calendar — a celebration of togetherness, heritage, and the enduring values of unity.
