Andhra Pradesh is on track to complete the construction of its ambitious people’s capital, Amaravati, within three years, said P. Narayana, State Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development. The announcement came following the 43rd CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) meeting, where an investment of Rs.24,276 crore was approved for various capital development works, including trunk roads, layouts, and iconic buildings.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Secretariat, Minister Narayana revealed that the total approval for Amaravati’s construction across all CRDA authority meetings has reached Rs.45,249.24 crore. Key projects include the construction of the Assembly building, High Court, administrative towers, and other key infrastructure to position Amaravati as one of the top five global cities.

Outlining the details of the planned structures, the minister stated that the State Assembly building will be built on 103 acres; this 250-meter-tall structure will span 11.22 lakh square feet. On non-session days, the public will have access to the rooftop to enjoy panoramic views of Amaravati. Also, the High Court Building, covering 20.32 lakh square feet across 42 acres, this eight-story structure will stand 55 meters tall, constructed at a cost of Rs.1,048 crore.

In regard to Administrative Towers, the minister said that a set of buildings spread across 68.88 lakh square feet with five iconic towers will be built at an estimated cost of Rs.4,688 crore. The General Administration Department (GAD) tower alone will rise 47 stories high, occupying 17.03 lakh square feet.

On the Infrastructure development front, Minister Narayana said that  a total of 579.5 kilometers of roads will be laid, including Rs.9,699 crore for primary roads and Rs.7,794 crore for trunk roads. As of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), these works, estimated at Rs.318 crore, are part of a holistic approach to sustainable development.

Minister Narayana announced that the tendering process for these projects would begin next Monday, with efforts to finalize most tenders by the end of December. Any remaining tenders will be completed by late January. The government is determined to complete Amaravati's construction within three years, transforming it into one of the world’s premier cities.

Addressing potential hurdles, the minister assured that Amaravati’s development is progressing without technical or legal issues. He also committed to resolving the grievances of farmers who contributed their land under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS). The government has taken up all necessary measures to provide justice to farmers from the 29 villages involved in the pooling process.

Minister Narayana criticized the previous government for derailing Amaravati’s progress, leading to significant cost escalations. He highlighted that construction rates have risen sharply, with tower projects seeing a 41% increase and the High Court construction costs rising by 28%. These delays, he said, were the result of poor decisions made by the previous administration, which also spread misinformation about the project.

The state government is committed to ensuring that Amaravati becomes a symbol of modernity and progress. The minister emphasized that Amaravati will not only meet but exceed global standards, aiming to rank among the top five cities in the world.
