Amaravati’s first phase capital works to be completed by 2028

The first phase of construction works in Andhra Pradesh’s capital Amaravati will be completed by August 2028, State Ministers Anagani Satya Prasad and S. Savitha said on Tuesday, asserting that the government intends to develop the greenfield capital into a landmark project for the Telugu people.

Ministers Anagani Satya Prasad, P. Narayana and Savitha inspected ongoing works in the capital, including residential complexes for ministers, MLAs and MLCs, the Secretariat, Heads of Departments (HoD) towers and other major government complexes.

Savitha said residential quarters for ministers, legislators and council members had already been completed and would be handed over to the General Administration Department on August 15. Construction of the Secretariat, High Court, Assembly and other iconic buildings would be completed by 2028, she said.

Road infrastructure, a crucial component of the capital project, is also progressing rapidly, while the Secretariat and HoD complexes are being developed to bring key government services and departments together in the capital, she added.

The inspection also turned into an occasion for the ruling TDP-led coalition to hit back at the opposition YSR Congress Party over its criticism of Amaravati. Satya Prasad accused the previous YSRCP government of attempting to undermine the capital project and said the resumption of construction had demonstrated that the project was becoming a reality. He also rejected the YSRCP’s criticism of Education Minister Nara Lokesh and its demand for his resignation, citing reforms in education, the Mega DSC recruitment exercise and efforts to attract investments.

Savitha, meanwhile, drew a sharp contrast between the two administrations, alleging that the previous government had presided over destruction while the present coalition was focused on development.

She said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision was to build Amaravati as a globally recognised greenfield capital. Drawing parallels with his role in the development of Hyderabad’s HITEC City and Cyberabad, she said completion of Amaravati would leave a lasting imprint on Andhra Pradesh’s development trajectory.
