The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday approved a wide range of policy decisions covering agriculture, housing, healthcare, energy, tourism, irrigation and industrial development. A major decision was taken to strengthen the state’s housing programme, with the Cabinet approving a government guarantee to APTIDCO for raising Rs 4,451 crore from HUDCO under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 1.0.
The move aims to complete 2.61 lakh houses across the state by June 2026. Nearly 10 lakh applications have been received, of which about 7.5 lakh are expected to be eligible. The Chief Minister directed officials to complete all sanctioned houses by October and reiterated the government’s goal of providing permanent housing to all eligible poor families by 2029.
In a boost to agriculture infrastructure, the Cabinet approved the transfer of 33 acres of land belonging to Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University at Palamaneru in Chittoor district to the Agricultural Market Committee. The existing market yard has become inadequate due to increased farm arrivals.
The AMC has already paid over Rs 1.45 crore as compensation. The new yard is expected to benefit farmers and ease traffic congestion, while the current market premises will be converted into a modern Rythu Bazaar. The Cabinet cleared the upgradation of the Government Medical College at Piduguralla under the PPP mode, approving 100 MBBS seats and increasing hospital bed strength from 330 to 420. A total of 837 posts were sanctioned to improve healthcare services and medical education in the region.
Key decisions were also taken in the tourism and cultural sector, including cancellation of Letters of Intent issued for Shilparamam projects at Tirupati and Visakhapatnam due to non-compliance by the developer. Fresh expressions of interest will be invited. The Cabinet also approved development of a cultural centre and entertainment zone at Shilparamam, Guntur, with a Rs 25 crore private investment.
The Cabinet decided to honour Arjuna Awardee and Olympian Yarraji Jyothi for her international achievements. She will be allotted 500 square yards of residential land in Visakhapatnam and will be offered a Group-I level government post after completion of her degree. In a significant welfare move, landless poor pensions will now be extended to minor children who have lost both parents, with Aadhaar-based payments routed through legal guardians.
Several land allotments were approved for ultra-mega solar power projects, compressed bio-gas plants, Ramayapatnam port-based industrial hub development, Krishnapatnam port connectivity works, a Kendriya Vidyalaya at Madanapalle, and a mega textile park in Kurnool district.
To promote tourism in tribal areas, 12.59 acres at Ananthagiri in Alluri Sitarama Raju district was allotted for development of a five-star resort, convention centre and theme park under the ‘Eco-Isle’ project.
In the power sector, the Cabinet approved a government guarantee for a Rs 900-crore HUDCO loan to the AP Power Finance Corporation to ensure uninterrupted coal procurement and electricity supply during the summer months. It also cleared the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2026, to safeguard state revenue amid ongoing court cases.
