Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana has announced a comprehensive plan for the development of municipalities across the state, focusing on financial stability, infrastructure improvements, and waste management. The announcement came after a review meeting held at the Rajamahendravaram municipal corporation office, attended by Collector P. Prasanthi, RUDA Chairman, local MLAs, and the Municipal Commissioner.
Minister Narayana emphasized the need for municipalities to generate their own revenue, stating that relying solely on external funding is unsustainable. He stressed the importance of realistic measures that avoid burdening citizens. The review focused on proposed and ongoing projects, drinking water, drainage systems, and tax collection progress within the municipal corporation.
To bolster municipal finances, the minister suggested bringing previously untaxed properties and additional constructions under the tax net. He pointed out that during the TDP's previous tenure, the focus was on expanding the tax base rather than increasing tax rates. A report on revenue generation avenues was also presented.
Municipal Commissioner Ketan Garg explained that auctions will be held for municipal shops currently subleased. He also outlined plans for mechanizing sludge desiltation work while continuing manual operations. The acquisition of vehicles under the Safai Karmachari scheme and the identification of beneficiaries were also discussed.
A significant portion of the discussion revolved around preparations for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu (a Hindu festival). Comprehensive plans were discussed for Rajamahendravaram and Kovvur divisions.
