The Andhra Pradesh government has finalized a reservation quota for government doctors in Postgraduate (PG) medical admissions for the academic year 2025-26. The decision, approved by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, aims to address the growing demand for medical specialists in government hospitals while also honoring the aspirations of doctors serving in Primary Health Centres (PHCs).

As per the new policy, 15% reservation will be provided for government doctors in seven clinical PG subjects, while 30% reservation will be applicable in nine non-clinical subjects. This initiative is based on projections of specialist requirements in government hospitals by 2028-29 and the expressed interest of doctors working in rural PHCs, Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav announced.

The reservation will apply to the following seven clinical courses, General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, and Radiology. These are among the 17 clinical PG courses offered in the state. In nine non-clinical PG courses, 30% of seats will be reserved for government doctors. These include Hospital Administration, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, and Social & Preventive Medicine.

Minister Satyakumar stated that the decision reflects the state’s commitment to support its government doctors. “There are 2,288 doctors serving across 1,144 PHCs in the state. Their aspirations for higher education have been carefully considered. The government has gone a step further by offering more seats than required based on future specialist needs,” he said.
