Central assistance sought for progress of high schools under Purvodaya scheme, he sought sanction of Rs 3,229 crore for improving basic amenities on the universities campuses

The Andhra Pradesh Government has made an appeal to the Union Government to sanction more schools under PM SHRI scheme and assistance for high schools under Purvodaya scheme. The Minister for Education, IT and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, on Wednesday made an appeal to the Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, to provide an opportunity to the Andhra Pradesh Government to conduct the All-India Education Ministers Conclave in the State to be held in August. Lokesh made a courtesy call on Mr Dharmendra Pradhan at the latter's residence in New Delhi early Wednesday.
Informing the Union Minister that the schools established under PM SHRI scheme have made excellent progress, the Minister for IT and Electronics said the demand for such schools is increasing day by day. Of the 2,369 schools proposed under Phase 1 and 2 of the PM SHRI scheme only 855 have been sanctioned, he said and made an appeal to the Union Minister Pradhan to sanction the remaining 1,514 schools under Phase-3.
Making an appeal for massive Central assistance for progress of high schools under Purvodaya scheme, he sought sanction of Rs 3,229 crore for improving basic amenities on the universities campuses, Rs 555 crore for constructing the buildings for 37 government colleges and another Rs 330 crore for improving the infrastructure in the existing degree colleges. Lokesh also sought funds for various other works in the educational institutions in different parts of the State.
Minister Lokesh sought an increase in Central funds allocation to the State for KGBVs, skill education, ICT-based learning and quality enhancement. Mentioning that the State Government is planning to strengthen primary education by setting up a model primary school at every panchayat, Lokesh felt that more budgetary allocations are needed for this purpose. He wanted the allocations to be increased for Andhra Pradesh in the 2025-26 budget.
