Special committee will be formed to evaluate and select the award recipients. This committee will assess the performance of legislators based on their participation in debates, the number of issues raised, and their overall conduct in the assembly and parliament

In a significant move aimed at strengthening the connection between elected representatives and the public, the Andhra Pradesh coalition government has introduced a novel initiative to recognize Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who actively address public concerns.

The government has decided to honor legislators who diligently raise public grievances and fight for their resolution in the state assembly and parliament. These awards, it clarified, will be given beyond party lines, encouraging lawmakers from all political backgrounds to engage more closely with the people.

The initiative aims to bring MPs and MLAs closer to their constituents, ensuring that public issues are effectively communicated at the legislative level. The government believes that by incentivizing proactive engagement, representatives will be more inclined to address public concerns with greater urgency and accountability.

To this end, legislators who voice public concerns effectively in the assembly will be honored with the title of ‘Best Legislator,’ while those who perform similarly in parliament will receive the ‘Best Parliamentarian’ award. The government has emphasized that the awards will be based on performance and conduct within the respective houses.

A special committee will be formed to evaluate and select the award recipients. This committee will assess the performance of legislators based on their participation in debates, the number of issues raised, and their overall conduct in the assembly and parliament.

Sources indicate that the selection criteria will prioritize the effectiveness of representatives in raising and addressing public grievances rather than their political affiliations. The committee’s decisions will be independent, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
