Six arrested for smuggling 100kg of spurious seeds

Six persons were arrested for allegedly smuggling spurious cotton seeds by train in Mancherial on Saturday. Police seized 100 kilograms of seeds from their possession. The value of the seeds was assessed to be Rs 1.70 lakh. Mancherial police said that Kadiyala Uday Kumar from Chirrakunta village, Siddam Shekhar of Akenapalli, Marishetti Narender, Kataveni Sai, Nagelli Mohan Gandhi belonging to Tiryani mandal centre, Pottala Madhusudan.

a resident of Subbaraopalli in Bellampalli mandal were apprehended while shifting the seeds in an auto-rickshaw at Mancherial railway station, following a tip-off. During interrogations, Uday Kumar and others confessed to committing the crime to make a fast buck. They admitted to procuring the seeds from Jagadishwar of Prakasam district. A case was registered against the six based on a complaint received from T Mahender, an agriculture officer of Mancherial mandal.
