Invites citizens to shape its iconic landmark

KIRANMAI TUTIKA  I AMARAVATI

Amaravati’s skyline is set to be graced by a spectacular new landmark. The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans for an iconic cable-stayed bridge spanning the Krishna River, a project that promises to boost connectivity and become a symbol of Telugu pride. What makes this initiative truly special is that the final design will be chosen by the people themselves.

The bridge, extending approximately five kilometers from Rayapudi in Amaravati to Mulapadu in NTR district, aims to be more than just a structural marvel. It will serve as a grand gateway to the new capital, connecting it directly to the busy Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway—embodying progress, ambition, and identity for the state.

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), leading the project, has introduced four distinct design options for public voting. Three of these are inspired by the graceful, storytelling postures of Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh’s classical dance form that blends elegance with cultural storytelling. The fourth design stands out with bold simplicity—a sleek structure shaped like the letter ‘A,’ symbolizing Amaravati itself.

Each proposed design aims to be more than just a means of transportation; they aspire to be landmarks that attract tourists and encapsulate the cultural essence of Amaravati. “We wanted a structure that residents and visitors alike can connect with instantly, blending Amaravati’s modern vision with its rich cultural heritage,” explained Kannababu, CRDA Commissioner. The voting process is straightforward. Citizens can visit the CRDA website, submit their name and phone number, and cast their vote for the design that resonates most with the spirit of the capital. The design receiving the most votes will be constructed over the waters of the Krishna River.

For Amaravati’s residents, this isn’t merely about selecting a bridge—it’s about shaping the identity of their new capital. In the years to come, this structure could feature in countless photographs, travel guides, and become a lasting symbol of pride and progress for generations.
