Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings, Investment and Infrastructure Minister B C Janardhan Reddy said on Thursday that the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has decided to expedite the bills to the contractors who have successfully completed the works aimed at pothole-free roads in the state in the past and released Rs 100 crores for clearing their dues. The minister informed that those contractors who have uploaded the bills for pot hole free works will be paid at the earliest based on seniority.

He assured that the state's roads will be restored to their former glory and that the government’s aim is to create better infrastructure in rural areas of the state. The minister said that 192 works have been taken up at a cost of Rs 400 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme of the NABARD and funds have been sanctioned for the development of 1246 km of “district highways”.

He stated that the government is moving ahead with specific plans to develop roads across the state that were destroyed during the previous YSRCP government and roads that are yet to be repaired on a priority basis. He mentioned that though the state is reeling under financial difficulties, after the government came to power, about 20,000 km of roads have been made pothole-free at a cost of Rs 861 crore.

He further mentioned that State highways and district main roads, which have been completely destroyed in such a way that potholes cannot be filled up, have been sanctioned under the 'C' category and are being developed at a cost of Rs 600 crores.
