The Government of Andhra Pradesh has swung into action to assist and evacuate Telugu families stranded in the flood-ravaged region of Lachung, Sikkim.
The intervention comes in response to severe floods and landslides that have disrupted access and cut off several areas in North Sikkim, leaving many families, including government officials, isolated for days.
Among those affected is Kurmanadha Rao, the Tahsildar of Vizianagaram, who, along with his wife M. Uma (38) and children Deekshitha (15) and Jayansh Narayana (6), has been stranded for the past three days. Their safety and evacuation have become a top priority for the Andhra Pradesh administration.
Acting on the instructions of Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and a key leader from Andhra Pradesh, coordinated rescue efforts have been launched in collaboration with Sikkim authorities.
Following directives from Ravi Chandra, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi has been closely monitoring the situation. The AP Bhavan team is in continuous contact with local district officials, including Shri Anant, Collector of Mangan district, and Superintendent of Police Chungtan Arun Tatal, to ensure all necessary support reaches those affected.
According to official updates, all stranded individuals are currently safe. However, access roads remain blocked due to heavy landslides. Restoration work is progressing, and road connectivity is expected to be re-established by tomorrow, paving the way for the safe movement of those trapped.
The Andhra Pradesh Resident Commissioner’s Office in New Delhi has assured that every possible precaution is being taken to ensure the safe return of the affected families. Authorities are also exploring alternate transportation options, including airlift, should conditions worsen.
