In a major initiative to revive Andhra Pradesh’s rich traditional crafts, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has proposed developing “Handicrafts Tourism” on the lines of temple and eco-tourism. Launching the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Mahotsavam-2026, organised by Lepakshi at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Kala Vedika in Vijayawada, he said the government is committed to protecting artisans, promoting indigenous crafts and creating sustainable livelihoods.

Pawan Kalyan announced that every handicraft would carry a QR code containing details about the artisan and the story behind the artwork, ensuring creators receive due recognition. He also directed officials to produce documentaries showcasing the skills and struggles of artisans to global audiences.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Common Facility Centres would be established under the VBG Ram G Mission, while regular health camps would be organised across artisan clusters to address occupational health issues faced by weavers, lace makers, Kalamkari artists and other craftsmen.

During his visit, Pawan Kalyan interacted with artisans from across the state, inspected exhibition stalls and purchased several handicraft products, including Uppada Jamdani silk sarees for his wife Anna Konidela, handmade banana fibre products and a wooden idol of Lord Venkateswara. He assured artisans of continued government support and infrastructure development.

Impressed by the Tholu Bommalata performance depicting the Ravana Vadha episode from the Ramayana, he announced that the art form would be showcased during the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu to attract tourists and promote Andhra Pradesh’s cultural heritage.

He also reviewed stalls featuring Srikalahasti Kalamkari, Pedana Kalamkari, Narasapur lace, Tirupati wood carvings, tribal Savara art, and scientific wooden toys. Officials were instructed to introduce these educational toys in government schools and promote tribal art through contemporary themes.

The Deputy Chief Minister also launched the Lepakshi e-commerce app, enabling artisans to market their products globally through digital platforms. In addition, he virtually inaugurated new Lepakshi showrooms at Rajamahendravaram Airport and reopened outlets in Guntur and Kakinada.
