Offering renewed hope to lakhs of AgriGold depositors who have waited for nearly a decade, the Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a time-bound action plan to resolve the long-pending financial fraud. A Cabinet Sub-Committee has announced that all legal hurdles will be addressed on priority, enabling the auction of AgriGold assets and repayment to depositors within the next six months.
The first meeting of the ministerial sub-committee, chaired by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita, was held at the Secretariat. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar and Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad attended the meeting, while Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav participated virtually. Officials presented a detailed review of the status of court cases, identification of company assets, auction procedures and pending claims of depositors.
Speaking after the meeting, Nadendla Manohar said the government was honouring its election promise by working towards justice for every AgriGold victim. He announced that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan had initiated steps to establish a special court to expedite legal proceedings and facilitate the sale of AgriGold properties under judicial supervision. The ministerial panel will review progress every 15 days to ensure timely implementation.
The government also announced a comprehensive asset protection strategy. Nearly 23,599 acres of AgriGold land spread across eight states have been identified and will be geo-tagged to digitally secure ownership records and prevent encroachments. Officials said Andhra Pradesh alone has around 11.57 lakh depositors, with pending claims estimated at Rs 3,944 crore. Additionally, CID investigations have traced Rs 2,000 crore worth of bonds still in the possession of agents, and the government plans to recover them within the next 30 days.
The meeting also witnessed sharp criticism of the previous YSRCP government. Nadendla Manohar alleged that AgriGold land records and survey details were neglected, while several crucial hard disks in CID custody had gone missing, further complicating the legal process. He said the coalition government is committed to overcoming these challenges and ensuring long-awaited justice for thousands of affected depositors.
