The Andhra Pradesh government has formulated a wide-ranging skill development initiative aimed at enhancing the productive capacity of people across all sections of society to overcome economic barriers affecting population growth, according to Health and Family Welfare Minister Satyakumar Yadav. The minister stated on Monday that the new skill development plan has been integrated into the state’s recently formulated Population Stabilization Policy.
Explaining the initiative, Minister Satyakumar Yadav said the program is designed to provide skill training to people of all age groups in line with the economic requirements of the 21st century. As part of the new population management policy, the government has recognized the need for skill development for everyone to achieve economic sustainability alongside healthy societal growth.
The minister outlined ambitious targets to be achieved by 2035- Digital literacy for 95% of the population, skill training for 75% of the people as per identified requirements, employment opportunities for over 80% of those who complete the training, certificate courses for one lakh people to provide childcare and elderly care services, increasing women’s participation in the workforce by 25%.
The skill development programs will operate at three levels. At the foundational level, courses will be introduced from early ages to build capabilities. Training will also be provided to working individuals across various age groups to enhance their productivity. Plans have been made to train one lakh people in childcare and elderly care services to meet the growing demand in these areas.
The minister expressed concern that the current total fertility rate in Andhra Pradesh stands at 1.50, while a balanced and sustainable development requires a rate of 2.10, considering the proportion of young and elderly populations.
