AP Pollution Control Board Chairman Dr. Krishnaiah said on Friday that through the government’s recycling policy, more environment friendly industries will come up and by providing additional incentives for recycling, there will be greater opportunities for setting up ancillary industries in the state. He chaired a workshop was organized at the Pollution Control Board headquarters in Vijayawada. The workshop was attended by Saravanan, Member Secretary of APPCB, Special Chief Secretary for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries B.Rajashekar, along with other senior officials of the Agriculture Department and Vice-Chancellors of various universities.

Rajashekar explained how much waste is being generated in agriculture, aquaculture, dairy, poultry and other sectors and how proper management of this can yield better results. Experts participating in the workshop discussed the challenges in their respective fields and offered appropriate suggestions. They pointed out that by controlling waste generation at the village level and establishing improved recycling units, not only will the waste burden be reduced, but employment opportunities and economic resources can also be generated.

APPCB Chairman Dr. Krishnaiah further expressed concern that in the agricultural & allied sectors, the use of mulching films, thin plastic pipes in drip irrigation, discarded fish nets, other plastic waste and plastic shade nets are causing severe harm to soil health. He appealed to Agriculture Department officials to adopt alternative methods in production to prevent such damage.
