Arrangements being made for opening Srisailam gates

The Irrigation Department  authorities are making preparations to lift the gates of the Srisailam project. The gates will be opened on Tuesday evening or Wednesday. The officials have sent an invitation to minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and representatives of the combined Kurnool district in this regard. The projects in the state are getting flooded due to the rains in the upper areas. The flood flow to Srisailam is continuing.

To this end, 1,98,550 cusecs of water is being released into the reservoir from Jurala and Sunkesela projects. The outflow of Srisailam project is 59,239 cusecs. 23,924 cusecs of water is being released from the right bank power station, 35,315 cusecs from the left bank power station and 35,315 cusecs of water is being released to Nagarjuna Sagar through electricity generation. 

The full water level in Srisailam is 885 feet and now it is 880.40 feet. The full water storage capacity of the project is 215.80 TMCs. At present, it has reached 190.33 TMC. At the time of lifting the gates,river Krishna will be given “Aarti by the minister and public representatives. After that, the gates will be lifted and water will be released to Nagarjuna Sagar.

On the other hand, due to the rains in the catchment areas of the river, the Godavari is getting flooded. The water level at the Polavaram project spillway rose to 28.11 metres on Saturday evening. 2,800 cusecs of water from Pattiseema was released into the right canal of the project on Saturday from the eight pumps of the lift irrigation scheme constructed on the Godavari at Pattiseema.
