Actor-producer Murali Mohan revealed that any potential sequel to the 2005 hit Athadu would only happen with Mahesh Babu and director Trivikram Srinivas. The film, marking Mahesh Babu’s birthday, will be re-released on August 9, 2025, in a restored version with Super 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos sound, thanks to Prasads Corporation. The re-release aims to bring the magic of this iconic film back to the big screen, which was produced by Murali Mohan under the Jayabheri Arts banner and starred Trisha as the female lead.

During the press meet, Murali Mohan shared that fans had been requesting a re-release for years, especially those who missed the original theatrical experience. He also recalled how Trivikram's vision for the lead character, who had grey shades, helped the film connect with contemporary audiences.

Anvesh from the Mahesh Babu Foundation emphasized the film's technical upgrades and urged audiences to enjoy it in theatres. Priyanka Duggirala from Jayabheri Arts and Jitendra Gundapaneni of Excell Arts expressed hopes that the re-release would bring back the same excitement and nostalgia for fans.
