ATM cash theft accused held in Gachibowli, Rs 34.90 lakh recovered

Hyderabad: Gachibowli police arrested a 34-year-old driver for allegedly stealing cash from an ATM currency replenishment vehicle and recovered Rs 34.90 lakh from his possession.

According to Narsingi ACP K Ramana Goud, the incident occurred on February 12 at Gopanpally Thanda under the Gachibowli police station limits. An amount of Rs 56 lakh was stolen from a vehicle supplying cash to ATMs. Based on a complaint, police registered Crime No. 278/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

The accused, Badigere Ajith Kumar alias Shiva, a native of Bommanahal in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, was working as a driver with Sangam Security Agency and residing at Diamond Point, Secunderabad. Police said he drove away with the vehicle while colleagues were outside refilling an ATM. Later, he abandoned the vehicle at Nallagandla after removing the cash trunk and fled.

He stayed at a lodge near RTC Cross Roads, broke open the cash box, and escaped to Anantapur before moving across Ballari, Bengaluru and Pune.

Police tracked him using technical evidence and arrested him at Shamshabad airport. He was remanded to judicial custody.
