Panic erupted at Chandrayangutta on Saturday when an auto-rickshaw driver, caught driving under the influence of alcohol, allegedly threatened traffic police personnel with a dead snake.

According to police, the driver was stopped during a routine drink-and-drive check under Chandrayangutta Traffic Police limits. He was found intoxicated and authorities attempted to take his vehicle into “safe custody.” While retrieving his belongings from the auto, the driver suddenly produced a dead snake, waving it at officers and demanding that the case not be registered and that his vehicle be released. In the ensuing commotion, the driver ran away from the spot, causing alarm among traffic personnel and bystanders. A video circulated on social media showed the auto driver approaching a traffic policeman with the snake, saying, “Take this… I want my vehicle back right now,” highlighting the unusual and threatening nature of the incident.

Police have registered a case against the driver for drunken driving and threatening public servants. Authorities confirmed that strict legal action is being taken and emphasized that public safety will not be compromised during enforcement operations.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by traffic authorities in Hyderabad and serves as a reminder for motorists to cooperate with safety checks to prevent endangering themselves and others.
