Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will formally launch the construction of the JSW Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Plant in YSR Kadapa district on July 3, marking a significant milestone in the region’s long-awaited industrial development. The project, coming up at Sunnapurallapalli and Peddadanluru villages, is expected to transform Rayalaseema into a major manufacturing and employment hub.
The integrated steel plant will be developed by JSW Andhra Pradesh Steel Limited in two phases across 1,100 acres with a total investment of Rs 16,350 crore. The first phase, involving an investment of Rs 4,500 crore, will be followed by a second phase worth Rs 11,850 crore, taking the plant’s production capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum. Commercial production is targeted to begin by March 2028.
Although the project received approvals in 2019 and witnessed multiple foundation ceremonies, it failed to move beyond the planning stage. The State Government said the project gained momentum after the present administration took office in 2024 by resolving pending issues, coordinating with JSW and facilitating policy approvals.
The government has also initiated key infrastructure works, including dedicated water supply, road connectivity to National Highway-67, and a 12-kilometre railway link connecting the plant to Muddanuru Railway Station under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
The steel plant will adopt scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy, making it a modern green steel facility with lower carbon emissions. Officials said the project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, encourage ancillary industries across Rayalaseema and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a major steel-producing state.
