Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu came down heavily on the “dangerous trend of criminal politics” in the state. Addressing his cabinet colleagues during a key ministerial meeting, Naidu expressed deep concern over the direction in which the state’s political atmosphere was heading, alleging that criminals were being openly patronised and integrated into political activities.
“Once upon a time, politicians were afraid to be seen with criminals. But now, it is shocking to witness political strategies being built around criminal elements,” the Chief Minister said, strongly criticizing the previous YSRCP regime without directly naming them. “What message are we sending to the public by standing behind criminals?” he questioned.
Naidu’s comments come at a time when the alliance government marks one year in office. Reviewing the coalition’s governance, he stated that the past year of administration was strong and effective. He urged ministers to function with greater efficiency and stay connected with the people. “Resolving public issues must remain our top agenda. Let’s intensify our efforts and work in unison with the people,” he directed the ministers.
During the meeting, some ministers raised concerns over the lack of accountability for the alleged excesses committed by the previous YSRCP government. Minister Sandhya Rani remarked, “TDP leaders were jailed without fault, while those who committed serious wrongdoings continue to roam free.” In response, CM Naidu made it clear that justice will prevail. “No one who has committed a crime can escape punishment. We will ensure a transparent and lawful investigation into the past regime’s corrupt activities. But we will not resort to political vendetta—that is not our way,” he asserted.
