Demanding 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming Sarpanch elections, leaders of the BC community on Wednesday staged a massive protest here at Tank Bund. The agitation was triggered by the state government’s G.O. No. 46, which protesters want for its immediate withdrawal. Demonstrators alleged that due to flaws in the reservation process, BCs were left out in several mandals, and urged the government to rectify the issue without delay.
The protest led to heavy traffic congestion in the surrounding areas of Tank Bund before the police intervened, detaining the agitators and restoring normal flow.In a parallel development, another group of BC leaders attempted to lay siege to the Congress state headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan. Police blocked their entry, leading to tense moments and a brief scuffle. Several protesters were taken into custody and shifted to a nearby police station.
