BC students demand release of Rs 8000 crs fees reimbursement

Tension prevailed in Himayatnagar on Monday as members of the Telangana BC Student Association staged a protest demanding the release of Rs.8,000 crore towards pending fee reimbursement funds for 14 lakh students. Led by association convener Nikhil Patel, students marched from Narayanaguda towards the Assembly. Police intercepted them at the Y-junction, prompting some protesters to stage a road sit-in. A heated exchange and brief scuffle were reported between the students and police as the proposed ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest was stopped.

Rajya Sabha member and National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah joined the protest and alleged that delays in fee reimbursement and scholarships were severely affecting students from BC, SC and ST communities. He claimed that college managements were withholding certificates of nearly six lakh students who had completed their courses due to pending reimbursements. Krishnaiah urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to intervene immediately and warned that the government would be held responsible for any further student protests.
