Backward Class (BC) organizations demanded that the State Government should implement 42% reservations for BCs in local body elections before proceeding with any electoral process.<
A roundtable meeting led by R Krishnaiah, chaired by Dr. Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, was held at Hotel Ashoka in Lakdikapool on Saturday. The meeting was attended by representatives of 90 BC caste associations from across Telangana.
The meeting was presided over by Dr. Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, former Chairman of the Telangana State Backward Classes Commission, and led by Rajya Sabha MP and National BC Welfare Association President R Krishnaiah. Former Minister Dr. V Srinivas Goud, social scientist Naragoni, and BC leaders from across the districts participated.
R Krishnaiah said ‘local body elections will not be allowed without implementing the constitutionally mandated 42% reservations for BCs.
He criticized the State Government for deliberately delaying the process and reminded that the bills related to BC reservations are still pending with the President of India. ‘Even after several months, the State has not deputed a single all-party delegation to the Rashtrapati Bhavan. This shows the lack of seriousness and commitment,’ he remarked.
Krishnaiah also said that the Governor must now act decisively, by officially conveying the will of the people and the pending status of the reservation Bills to the President to expedite a decision. Similarly, he stated that the State Election Commission must not proceed with polls until valid commission reports and empirical data supporting BC reservations are made public in accordance with Supreme Court and High Court directions.
‘If the government continues its evasive tactics, we will launch protests at Mandal offices, block campaign activities, and ensure that MLAs cannot freely visit their constituencies,’ he warned.
