Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka urged the state’s cement and steel industries to support the Indiramma Housing scheme, a major welfare initiative launched by the people’s government. On Tuesday, he and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu met with industry leaders at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat.

They announced the construction of 450,000 Indiramma homes with a ₹22,500 crore budget, with work already underway. Bhatti emphasized that the government has long supported these industries and now expects them to act with humanitarian intent by offering reduced prices for materials while maintaining the same uncompromised quality as for high-rise projects.

Sridhar Babu noted the scheme’s significance as the first of its kind since the Congress returned to power. He urged all companies, large or small, to offer cement and steel at uniform, affordable rates, recognizing Telangana’s growing industrial landscape and the rising future demand for these materials. The ministers also reviewed current supply rates in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Officials estimated requirements at around 5 million metric tonnes of cement and 2.775 million metric tonnes of steel. Industry representatives expressed gratitude for the chance to support the humanitarian programme and pledged to continue price discussions under the guidance of the Industries Department. Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Industries Department Director Nikhil Chakravarthy, and other officials attended the meeting.
