For higher education and technological advancement in India, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is all set to establish a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence-focused campus in the capital region of Andhra Pradesh — Amaravati. The ambitious project, announced by Aditya Birla Group Chairman and BITS Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla, will involve an initial investment of Rs.1,000 crore and is poised to redefine the contours of AI education in the country.

AI Plus Campus, this new institution will span across 35 acres and is scheduled to commence operations by 2027. Designed in two phases, the futuristic campus aims to accommodate up to 7,000 students, offering specialized programs in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Innovation, Strategy, and related disciplines. Undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including a Master’s program in AI, will be the key academic offerings.

“This campus is a reflection of the visionary leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu,” said Kumar Mangalam Birla, acknowledging the support of the Andhra Pradesh government in making this project a reality. “We were offered land at a very reasonable rate, which shows the government’s serious commitment to fostering world-class education infrastructure in the state.” Speaking about the broader vision, Birla said the Amaravati campus is not just about scale but also about significance.

“It will be the first AI-exclusive university campus in India and aims to place BITS Pilani among the top five institutions in India and among the global top 100 by 2030.” Chief Minister Naidu, who took to social media with the hashtag #BITScomingToAP, expressed deep gratitude and enthusiasm for the development.

“This first-of-its-kind campus will be a world-class centre for Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. It will shape India’s brightest minds and make Andhra Pradesh the nerve centre of our innovation-led education revolution,” he said.

Beyond the academic infrastructure, the BITS leadership has also committed Rs.1,219 crore towards long-term research capabilities, digital infrastructure, and development of physical facilities. Over the next five years, BITS Pilani Digital will launch 32 programs, including 11 degree and 21 certificate courses, catering to professionals in emerging technology fields.

Construction work on the campus has already begun, with architectural finalizations currently underway. The proposed campus will also offer key computer science programs along with several minor courses, covering all foundational AI concepts.
