The BJP central leadership is reportedly preparing an ambitious strategy, titled ‘Mission Telangana’, to strengthen the party’s presence in the state. As part of the initiative, the party plans to bring prominent national leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to Telangana in the coming months.
According to party sources, Amit Shah’s visit is expected in November, followed by Modi’s visit in December. The BJP is also considering a schedule under which one or two Union ministers or senior national leaders would visit the state every month to intensify political activity and strengthen the organization.
BJP seeks to emerge as strong alternative
With the Congress currently in power and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) preparing for the next Assembly elections, the BJP is seeking to establish itself as a credible political alternative in Telangana. The proposed campaign aims to highlight the alleged shortcomings of the Congress government, raise public issues and energize party workers. The visits of senior leaders are expected to provide direction to the cadre and improve the party’s visibility among voters.
Focus on booth-level organization
As part of the strategy, Amit Shah is reportedly scheduled to participate in a Maha Padayatra in Hyderabad on November 2. Prime Minister Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the Mamnoor Airport project in Warangal in December. The BJP is also considering a major public meeting in Warangal during his visit. Beyond public rallies, the party plans to strengthen its booth-level network, review its performance in previous elections and focus on areas where its organization remains weak. Campaigns highlighting Central government schemes and meetings involving grassroots workers are also being considered.
The BJP hopes these efforts will improve its prospects in upcoming elections, including those in Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and other urban local bodies. However, political analysts point out that the success of the central leadership’s strategy will depend on the Telangana unit addressing its internal challenges, improving coordination and strengthening its grassroots organization.
