Jubilee Hills assembly seat BRS party MLA Maganti Gopinath passed away on Sunday. He was suffering from a serious illness for the past few days and breathed his last at 5.45 am on Sunday morning.
On Thursday evening (June 5), Gopinath, who was suffering from severe chest pain, was rushed to the AIG Hospital in Gachibowli by his family members. He has been receiving treatment in the hospital since then. He suffered a cardiac arrest. Although his heart beat returned to normal with CPR and his pulse returned to normal, he could not recover from his unconscious state. He passed away on Sunday morning as his condition deteriorated. Gopinath is survived by his wife Sunita, son Vatsalyanath and daughter Aksharanaga.
Maganti Gopinath was born on June 2, 1963 in Hyderguda in the city. He completed his Intermediate from Venkateswara Tutorials in 1980. He completed his BA from Osmania University in 1983. He won consecutively from the Jubilee Hills constituency in the 2014, 2018, and 2023 assembly elections. Maganti, who served as president of Telugu Nadu Youth wing from 1985 to 1992, contested 2014 elections on behalf of the TDP. He tasted victory for the first time with a lead of over 9,000 votes over his nearest Majlis Party candidate Naveen Yadav.
He joined the BRS party and defeated Congress party candidate P Vishnuvardhan Reddy in the 2018 elections. In the last elections, he once again contested from Jubilee Hills and won against the party Congress candidate Azharuddin, achieving a hat-trick mark. Maganti Gopinath waved the flag of the BRS party in the constituency, which is the hotbed of Telangana. He actively participated in the party activities and became a key leader in the city.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister and state BJP president G Kishan Reddy, BRS president KCR, TDP leader and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh and other leaders paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of Gopinath at his residence. BRS Working President K T Rama Rao, BJP MP K Laxman and several other leaders attended the funeral of Gopinath at the 'Maha Prasthanam' crematorium here on Sunday evening.
The funeral was held with state honours as decided by the ruling government.
