BRS to move Private Bill on Congress Six Guarantees

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday announced that the party will introduce a Private Member Bill in the upcoming Telangana Assembly budget session seeking legal backing for the Congress government’s six guarantees promised to the people before the elections. He said the move is aimed at exposing what he termed the Congress government’s failure and “betrayal” in implementing the assurances given to various sections of society.

Speaking to the media after a joint orientation meeting of BRS MLAs and MLCs held at a resort in Golconda, KTR said the Congress had promised to grant legal status to the six guarantees in its very first Cabinet meeting after coming to power. However, even after two and a half years in office, the government has neither provided legal backing nor implemented the promises effectively, he alleged.

KTR said the proposed Private Member Bill would seek to ensure that the guarantees announced for women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, students and farmers are implemented as promised. He stated that the bill would be introduced on behalf of these sections of society who, according to him, were misled by the Congress during the elections.

He also said senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, had assured that the six guarantees would be made legally enforceable. “Through this bill we will expose the Congress party’s deception in the Assembly,” KTR said, calling upon Congress legislators to support the bill if they were truly committed to their promises.

Referring to the BRS legislators’ meeting held earlier in the day, KTR said the party discussed its strategy for the upcoming budget session, which he described as highly significant as the Congress government has already completed half of its tenure. He said the opposition would strongly question the government on the non implementation of its electoral promises and alleged irregularities in governance.

KTR criticized the government for failing to constitute Assembly committees even after two years in office and pointed out that there is still no Deputy Speaker in the Assembly. He alleged that the Congress government is using “bulldozer tactics” both in governance and in the legislature.

The BRS leader also accused the government of manipulating financial figures in the Assembly and misleading the public about the state’s financial situation. He said the party would question the government on the lack of budget allocations for Dalits, tribals, backward classes and minorities, and on the failure to fulfil promises made to farmers, women and students.

KTR further criticized the government over the Musi River project, alleging that while the government claims there is no money for welfare schemes, it is pursuing a massive project that could lead to large scale corruption and displacement. He clarified that BRS is not against the rejuvenation of the Musi but opposed what he described as corruption in the project.

He asserted that the BRS will continue to raise people’s issues and hold the government accountable during the Assembly session.
