Jana Sena Party MLA from Avanigadda and former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad sparked a political debate with candid remarks on the state of contemporary politics, saying that winning the recent Assembly election was the biggest mistake of his long political career. Speaking at the unveiling of the statue of former united Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah, organised by the Vasavi Foundation at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Buddha Prasad expressed deep concern over what he described as the steady erosion of political values and democratic culture.
Drawing a contrast between the past and the present, Buddha Prasad said today’s political environment had become increasingly toxic and disrespectful. “We had the privilege of practising value-based politics alongside leaders like Rosaiah. Today, politics has taken a disturbing turn. I often wonder why we continue in such an atmosphere. Looking back, I feel that winning as an MLA this time was my biggest mistake,” he remarked, expressing disappointment over the prevailing political culture.
Recalling an incident involving legendary actor-politician N.T. Rama Rao, Buddha Prasad said that despite intense political rivalry inside the Assembly, NTR and Rosaiah shared immense personal respect. He narrated how NTR had warmly seated Rosaiah beside him during his wedding, describing it as an example of the civility that once defined political life. His remarks, particularly his observation about regretting his electoral victory and his criticism of the declining standards of political discourse, have generated considerable discussion across Andhra Pradesh’s political circles.
