Securing an APSFL fibernet connection in Vijayawada has become a major challenge, with residents alleging that officials are unresponsive and many cable operators are refusing to provide new connections. Adding to the problem, the APSFL toll-free helpline is reportedly non-functional most of the time.
So far, only 7,389 fibernet connections have been provided in Vijayawada urban, despite demand from thousands of households. APSFL officials attribute the slow rollout to the lack of cooperation from cable operators and multi-system operators (MSOs). They say operators prefer direct connections, which fetch them higher earnings than APSFL's commission, prompting many to deny new connections.
"I have been requesting a fibernet connection from my cable operator for the past six months. Every time he gives a different excuse and finally refused, saying there was no demand from others in my area. I also applied online but received neither a confirmation nor a connection," said D. Vijayalakshmi, a resident of Vijayawada.
APSFL Zonal Manager T. Ramanjaneyulu told Metro India that the agency has received several complaints against cable operators. "If an APSFL partner operator refuses to provide connections, we will take action, terminate the contract if necessary, and appoint alternate operators. We are also bringing in new operators and increasing commission for premium packages," he said.
Residents also complained that APSFL's toll-free number (1800-599-5555) often fails to connect callers to customer support, ending after the IVRS menu. Officials said the helpline currently has only 12 incoming call lines and that a proposal has been sent to BSNL to increase capacity.
