The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed film producer Sushmita Konidela, daughter of megastar Chiranjeevi, as a special invitee to the Trust Board of the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada. The government issued official orders to this effect through Endowments Department Secretary Kannababu, giving Sushmita a role in matters concerning one of Andhra Pradesh’s most prominent temples.
As a special invitee, Sushmita is expected to participate in discussions concerning the development of the Kanaka Durga temple and offer suggestions to the Trust Board on various issues. Her role is also expected to involve inputs on improving amenities for the large number of devotees visiting the temple, development works on the hill shrine and arrangements for major religious events, including the annual Dasara Navaratri celebrations.
The appointment assumes significance as the Kanaka Durga temple is among the State’s major pilgrimage centers and attracts a particularly large influx of devotees during the Dasara festivities. Sushmita has established herself as a film producer under the Gold Box Entertainments banner. She has been associated with several projects in the Telugu entertainment industry.
Interestingly, her mother, Konidela Surekha, is also associated with temple administration. Surekha is serving as a member of the governing body of the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta in Telangana. With Sushmita’s latest appointment, members of the Konidela family now have roles associated with the administration of prominent temples in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
