Social activist and environmental advocate Kotturu Ashok has announced the distribution of 29,000 eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols free of cost as part of a campaign encouraging people to celebrate the festival responsibly. The initiative, dated 17 July 2026, aims to promote the use of clay idols in Hyderabad city, municipal centres, and Gram Panchayats across the state.
The free distribution drive will be held from August 5 to August 20, 2026. According to Ashok, the campaign builds on last year's success, when 20,000 clay Ganesh idols were distributed free of charge. This year, the target has been increased to 29,000 idols to meet growing public demand.
Organisers have also urged citizens to place orders at least two months in advance, as crafting clay idols requires considerable time. Ashok has also appealed to state governments to intensify public awareness campaigns promoting eco-friendly Ganesh celebrations.
