The funds, sourced from the state budget and the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF), will support 2,432 projects
The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 2,780 crore for development works across 138 municipalities and corporations, excluding the Telangana Core Urban City, to bolster urban infrastructure and civic amenities. This initiative, approved by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, aligns with the Telangana Rising Vision 2027, aiming to transform towns into growth hubs to meet the demands of increasing populations.
The funds, sourced from the state budget and the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF), will support 2,432 projects. The allocation prioritizes newly formed municipalities, merged gram panchayat areas, and existing municipalities. Specifically, Rs 15 crore has been allocated for new municipalities, Rs 20 crore for municipalities with merged gram panchayats, Rs 15 crore for older municipalities, and Rs 30 crore for newly established municipal corporations. The Municipal Administration Department has issued guidelines to ensure these funds are utilized effectively for prioritized de velopment works.
Key focus areas include infrastructure development in merged areas, construction of internal roads, drainage systems for rainwater and sewage, junction improvements, pollution control in lakes and ponds, and provision of basic amenities in double-bedroom housing areas. Additional projects involve park development, culvert construction, and shopping complex establishment. These initiatives aim to enhance civic facilities and address the growing demands of urban populations.
Chief Minister Reddy has directed officials to initiate tenders immediately and commence work, setting a deadline of March 2026 for completion. The government’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to equitable urban development, ensuring newly formed and expanded municipalities receive adequate resources to improve living standards. By prioritizing critical infrastructure, the state aims to create sustainable urban ecosystems that cater to the evolving needs of its citizens, reinforcing Telangana’s vision of robust urban growth.
This substantial investment reflects the government’s dedication to transforming municipalities into vibrant growth hubs, ensuring improved infrastructure and civic services across the state.
