Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has extended an invitation to Rahul Gandhi to attend public meetings being planned by Telangana Congress celebrating the successful caste survey and SCs classification initiatives. Revanth met senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister discussed the Backward Classes (BC) caste survey, Scheduled Castes (SC) categorization, and various key issues related to the Telangana Congress. The Chief Minister, in an informal interaction with media in New Delhi, highlighted that the caste census was conducted in a scientific and transparent manner, ensuring accuracy without any political interference.

He refuted opposition claims of irregularities, challenging critics to identify any mistakes. According to the survey, BCs—including Hindu and Muslim communities—constitute 56% of the state's population. The Congress government plans to introduce a resolution in the Assembly proposing 42% reservations for BCs and will forward it to Parliament for approval.

On SCs classification, CM Revanth Reddy announced that a bill on this issue would be introduced in the upcoming budget session. He stated that objections raised by some SC sub-castes are being carefully reviewed by a commission, and the government will act based on its report without interference. He assured that Congress is committed to passing a law and challenged the BJP to do the same at the national level.

CM Revanth Reddy reiterated his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. He stated that the Telangana caste census serves as a roadmap for the country and will guide future welfare policies. He assured that the government will form a commission or committee based on the survey results to implement welfare measures effectively.

CM dismisses speculation on cabinet expansion

The Chief Minister dismissed speculations regarding the expansion of the PCC executive committee and the state cabinet, attributing such rumours to political mischief. He emphasized that Congress remains dedicated to governance and social justice, following Rahul Gandhi’s guidance to implement policies that uplift marginalized communities. CM Revanth Reddy reiterated that the caste census is a historic step toward equitable distribution of resources, making Telangana a role model in social justice and welfare policies.

Addressing the controversy over his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi being a 'converted BC,' CM Revanth Reddy clarified that his statement was based on legal and historical facts, and not intended to demean the Prime Minister. He pointed out that BJP leaders like Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay have made similar claims, only differing on the timeline of Modi’s BC status. Revanth Reddy reaffirmed that his statements were not meant to insult Modi but to highlight factual details, dismissing the BJP’s attempts to twist the narrative for political gain.

Political defections and Supreme Court rulings

CM Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of waiting for the Supreme Court's decision regarding the disqualification of defected MLAs. He criticized BRS working president KT Rama Rao for misleading the public on this matter, stating that the courts will decide based on the Constitution. The Chief Minister questioned the political affiliations of leaders like Sabitha Indra Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, pointing out the parties under which they contested elections and served as ministers in the past.
