Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Legal Cell Convener Satyanarayana Gundlapally on Tuesday slammed BRS leaders T. Harish Rao and G. Jagadish Reddy for their criticism of the State government’s legal strategy on the Polavaram and Nallamala projects.

Addressing a press conference, Gundlapally called their remarks the “height of ignorance” and questioned their moral right to critique the government, alleging that the previous BRS regime had “mortgaged” Telangana’s interests for a decade.

Clarifying the government’s approach in the Supreme Court, he said the decision to file a Civil Suit under Article 131 was a strategic move to ensure the case is legally strong and not dismissed on technical grounds.

Gundlapally stressed that the Congress government remains committed to safeguarding the state’s share of water. He added that eminent legal experts, including Abhishek Manu Singhvi, would be engaged to prevent Andhra Pradesh from “illegally diverting 200 TMC of water.”

Taking a dig at the former Irrigation Minister, he questioned why Harish Rao remained silent when the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme was constructed during the BRS tenure. He also contrasted the current government’s farmer-centric approach with the BRS’s “commission-driven” record, highlighting the failure of the Medigadda barrage project.
