Congress MLA Shankar’s remarks against KCR trigger political storm

Controversial remarks by Congress MLA Veerlapalli Shankar against former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has triggered a political storm in the State.

Going beyond the limits of political criticism, Shankar reportedly said that they would not merely beat 1,000 drums but would even beat the “death drum” if necessary.

The MLA also allegedly said that they wanted KCR to die and were wishing for his death. He further described KCR as a “curse” on Telangana and launched a scathing attack on the former Chief Minister using objectionable and derogatory language.

The remarks have drawn strong criticism from BRS leaders and supporters, who questioned how a responsible public representative could make such objectionable and undignified comments against a senior political leader and former Chief Minister.

Opposition leaders and democratic activists also expressed concern over the alleged remarks, saying that public representatives should focus on people's issues rather than making statements that could be construed as threatening an individual's life. They accused Shankar of displaying a vindictive attitude.

The controversy has further intensified with the BRS demanding immediate legal action against Shankar over his alleged remarks, which the party said could disturb peace and law and order in the State.
