CPI leader K Ramakrishna on Monday urged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to discuss the issue with the Centre and ensure that the name of Mahatma Gandhi is retained in the Employment Guarantee ACT. CPI state secretary Gujjula Eswaraiah, national committee member Muppalla Nageswara Rao and Ramakrishna met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at the secretariat. On this occasion, several issues were brought to his notice.
They informed that the Centre has reduced 90 per cent of the funds given to the MGNREGS scheme to 60 per cent and if the state has to bear 40 per cent of the funds, it will be a financial burden on many states, including AP. Similarly, the Centre has promised to increase the number of working days from 100 to 125 days, but so far the average of 50 working days has not been provided to any family, they pointed out.
The CPI leader K.Ramakrishna also said that the amendments to the Act, which were hitherto entitled, would make it difficult for employment in rural areas and asked the Centre to immediately withdraw the amendments.
