CPI leaders staged a novel protest in Hanumakonda city on Friday demanding the immediate rollback of the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. They pulled autos with ropes at Kaloji Centre in a symbolic demonstration. Speaking on the occasion, CPI State Assistant Secretary Takkallapalli Srinivas Rao said that common people, already struggling with rising prices of essential commodities, are now facing an additional burden due to the hike in fuel prices.
He expressed concern that the increase would further push up transportation costs and lead to a rise in prices of daily essentials and vegetables. He criticized the BJP-led Central Government, stating that it had recently hiked prices of commercial and domestic LPG cylinders, putting an unbearable burden on ordinary citizens. “The Narendra Modi government is working for corporate interests and ignoring the welfare of the poor,” he alleged. Srinivas Rao accused the ruling dispensation of functioning at the behest of corporate giants like Adani and Ambani for the past 12 years.
He called upon all sections of society to strongly oppose the Centre’s anti-people policies. He warned that if the increased petrol and diesel prices are not reduced immediately, the government would have to face public wrath.
