Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said the allocation of the Tadicherla II coal block would be a game changer for Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), describing it as the "crown jewel" of Telangana's coal sector. Addressing the media during the BJP's Singareni Bharosa Yatra, he said the allocation ended nearly two decades of uncertainty and reflected the Centre's commitment to strengthening Singareni.
Kishan Reddy said the Tadicherla II block, with an estimated reserve of 350 million metric tonnes, is the largest coal block in Singareni's history. He said the mine has the potential to sustain coal production for the next 40 to 50 years, ensuring long-term energy security and supporting industrial growth. The project is expected to create around 2,000 permanent jobs and over 5,000 contract jobs, besides generating employment in transport, hospitality, workshops and other allied sectors. He said the overall economic activity from the project could reach nearly Rs 1.20 lakh crore.
Calling it the "Baahubali Coal Block" of South India, the Union Minister urged Singareni management to secure all statutory clearances and begin mining operations at the earliest. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the allocation despite legal and procedural hurdles.
Raising concerns over SCCL's finances, Kishan Reddy alleged that nearly Rs 27,000 crore in payments for coal supplies and power charges remained pending from the Telangana Government, forcing the company to borrow funds even for salary payments. Meanwhile, BJP Telangana President N. Ramchander Rao hailed the allocation as a historic achievement, accused the Congress and previous BRS governments of weakening Singareni through financial burdens, and said the BJP would continue to safeguard the interests of the company and its workforce.
