On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2025, Cure SMA Foundation of India a national parent-led nonprofit supporting individuals with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) announced the preview and soft launch of e-Swayam, India’s first Digital Accessibility Map here in city.
e-Swayam is a community-powered, technology-enabled public platform designed to improve accessibility across India by providing reliable, real-time, lived experience based information on the accessibility of physical spaces.
The initiative will begin with mobility accessibility in 2025 and gradually expand to cover all disability categories by 2027, aiming to build a truly inclusive national ecosystem.
The event was graced by leaders including Y Sayapa Reddy (HMRL), Alagappan (UNDP), Archana Suresh, Dr. Vidya Sagar, and Praveen Prakash Ambashta. Speakers stressed the need for universally accessible environments and highlighted how digital tools like e-Swayam can bridge long-standing policy-to-practice gaps. Experts from Microsoft, Google, Indian Coast Guard, HMRL, ICICI Bank, CSIR-CCMB, South Coast Railways, and civil society explored the transformative potential of a unified accessibility mapping system.
