The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, held its 31st meeting on Thursday for nearly four hours, taking a series of key decisions with a strong focus on financial relief to employees, legal strategy on the Kaleshwaram issue, and administrative reforms.

At the outset, the Cabinet made a significant commitment to clear long-pending dues of retired employees within 100 days, acknowledging the hardship faced by pensioners and their families. It noted that thousands of crores in retirement benefits and bills had been left pending over the past decade, creating financial distress and forcing retirees to repeatedly visit offices for their rightful payments.

The Cabinet estimated that around Rs 6,200 crore is pending for regular employees and nearly Rs 8,000 crore for retired personnel. While admitting the constraints posed by the state’s financial position, it resolved to explore all possible avenues for resource mobilization and fund adjustment. In a notable gesture, ministers expressed willingness to divert up to 50 per cent of their salaries and those of public representatives to facilitate immediate relief to retired employees.

A sub-committee on resource mobilization has been tasked with engaging employee unions, teachers’ bodies, and pensioners’ associations to expedite solutions and ensure that payments are streamlined within the stipulated timeline. The Cabinet decided to consult senior legal experts to move the SC.
