An American man, deeply inspired by Sanatana Dharma, embraced a new spiritual identity as Craig Sastry and, with his wife, devoted decades to building and performing daily worship at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Austin. He recently attained Paramapadam (eternal abode).
In his memory, on August 3, 2025, the American Telugu Association (ATA) hosted a special event at the temple auditorium. Dr. L V Gangadhara Sastry, renowned Gita singer and preacher, delivered a powerful musical discourse on ‘Practicing Bhagavadgita in Daily Life.’
Dr. Sastry emphasized that the Bhagavadgita transcends boundaries of religion, race, and nationality, offering timeless guidance for all of humanity. He stated, ‘Teaching the Gita is not religious conversion but Dharmic propagation. Dharma is universal.’ Quoting Krishna’s words ‘Yadyad ācarati śre has’, he urged people to lead by example and introduce children to spiritual thought early in life.
His soul-stirring rendition of verses from the Vishwarupa Sandarshana Yoga chapter deeply moved the audience, who rose in applause. Prior to the discourse, children were guided by Krishna Kolluri and Swathi recited the Bhakti Yoga chapter, earning Dr. Sastry’s heartfelt praise.
He also acknowledged Gita promotional efforts by Pavan Vajhala of the Bhagavadgita Foundation – Australia Chapter. Gratitude was extended to Sri Rajeswara Rao Tekmal and ATA leaders for their support in organizing the meaningful event.
