DoT hosts cyber security conference in Hyderabad

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), AP Licensed Service Area (LSA), on Monday organised a Security Conference in Hyderabad to strengthen coordination among government agencies, police, banks and telecom operators in tackling cyber frauds and telecom-related crimes.

Director General (Telecom) Anand Khare said DoT had disconnected over five crore fraudulent mobile connections, recovered more than 12 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones, and helped prevent cyber frauds worth over Rs 1,800 crore through its Financial Fraud Risk Indicator framework over the past two years.

DoT AP LSA said it busted 11 illegal telecom and cybercrime setups during 2025-26 and recovered around 2.04 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones, the highest in the country. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar highlighted the success of Operation Octopus 3.0 against organised cyber fraud networks. Anand Khare also inaugurated DoT's first Network Security Laboratory at the Hyderabad unit for cyber security research, threat analysis and capacity building.
