Deccan Woods & Trails, the eco-tourism wing of the Telangana Forest Development Corporation Ltd. (TGFDC), successfully conducted a two-day Nature Camp at Forestrek Park, Manchirevula, in the Chilkur Reserve Forest from July 12 to 13, with 15 participants from across Hyderabad taking part. The camp began with an orientation by K. Suman, Projects Manager (Eco-Tourism), and botanist Dr. I. Veera Kishore, who briefed participants on the itinerary, safety measures and the importance of wildlife conservation.
The programme included team-building activities, an interpretive trek to the prehistoric Mesolithic Rock Art site, and sessions on native flora, birds and the ecological significance of the reserve forest. Participants also received hands-on training in pitching and dismantling camping tents, followed by a bonfire, wildlife storytelling session and a guided nocturnal walk led by expert naturalists.
On the second day, campers took part in a bird walk, nature trail and trek through the park's hillocks. Equipped with binoculars and bird identification guides, they observed local bird species and learnt about their habitats. The programme concluded with a millet-based breakfast promoting sustainable and healthy living.
TGFDC Executive Director (Eco-Tourism) L. Ranjeet Nayak, IFS, announced that Deccan Woods & Trails will organise regular nature camps at Forestrek Park for families, educational institutions, corporates and nature enthusiasts. He said the alcohol-free camps aim to promote responsible tourism, environmental awareness and a deeper appreciation of forests and wildlife through guided experiences led by trained naturalists.
