On the occasion of Doctors' Day, Dr. Sunil Kumar Kothawar, Chairman of Area Dental Charitable Hospitals, Hyderabad, urged people not to delay dental treatment, saying early care can prevent serious oral diseases and expensive procedures.

He said most dental problems, including tooth decay and gum disease, are preventable and can be treated quickly and affordably if detected in the early stages. However, many people visit a dentist only after severe pain or tooth loss, when treatment becomes more complex and costly.

Dr. Kothawar noted that untreated cavities may require root canal treatment or extraction, while neglected gum disease can lead to loose teeth and permanent tooth loss. He also dismissed the misconception that teeth naturally fall out with age, explaining that poor oral hygiene and untreated gum disease are the main causes.

He stressed that regular dental check-ups, prompt treatment, and good oral hygiene are essential for lifelong oral health. “The cost of prevention is always lower than the cost of neglect,” he said, adding that healthy teeth are a lifelong investment in overall health.
